In the National Championships Moot, students will appear in a simulated appeal in a superior court, based on a mock fact scenario and judgment from a lower court. No witnesses, just good old fashioned legal argument about whether or not the lower court decision was correct.

Australian Red Cross International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot
2023 IHL Moot RulesThe Australian Red Cross and ALSA host the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Mooting Competition during the annual ALSA Conference. The IHL Moot's purpose is to raise awareness of international humanitarian law issues within the Australian university community. The Moot assists students in understanding and appreciating the growing importance of international humanitarian law, its nature as a system of protection during times of armed conflict and its role as fundamental part of international law.

National Paper Presentation Competition
2023 Paper Presentation Competition RulesREGISTER BY: July 6, 5.00pm AEST.
WRITTEN PAPER DUE: July 6, 5.00pm AEST.For jurisprudents, those who aspire to law reform, or those with cutting analysis of a recent case, is the National Paper Presentation Competition. A different style of competition, it involves researching and writing a legal essay and then presenting it to a panel of judges who have the opportunity to question its ideas.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Paper Presentation
Competitors must be studying a law degree at their affiliated law school.
Competitors must not have graduated with a law degree in any jurisdiction.
Competitors are not permitted to register for multiple competitions during the Conference.
Competitors may not be current members of the ALSA Executive or the 2022 Competitions Team.
Witness Examination
Competitors must be studying a law degree at their affiliated law school.
Competitors must not have graduated with a law degree in any jurisdiction.
Competitors are not permitted to register for multiple competitions during the Conference.
Competitors may not be current members of the ALSA Executive or the 2022 Competitions Team.
Negotiation
Competitors must be studying a law degree at their affiliated law school.
Competitors must not have graduated with a law degree in any jurisdiction.
Competitors are not permitted to register for multiple competitions during the Conference.
Competitors who have participated in Knockout Rounds of Negotiation in previous years are prohibited from participating again. This does not bar students who have participated in the Knockout Rounds of other ALSA Competitions from participating.
Competitors may not be current members of the ALSA Executive or the 2022 Competitions Team.
Client Interview
Competitors must be studying a law degree at their affiliated law school. If invited by the President and Competitions Team, non-affiliated law schools may nominate teams to compete, provided that their competitors comply with the rules contained therein.
Competitors must not have graduated with a law degree in any jurisdiction.
Competitors are not permitted to register for multiple competitions during the Conference.
Competitors may not be current members of the ALSA Executive or the 2022 Competitions Team.

I’m a massive comps nerd with a particular love for client interviewing, so I’m super excited to be working with the ALSA comps team this year.
